From Humble Beginnings to a Puerto Rican Rum Legacy

In the lush landscapes of Puerto Rico, where the sugarcane sways to the rhythm of the Caribbean breeze, a dream took root. Our founder Augusto Ponce, a man deeply entrenched in the rum industry for 30 years, envisioned a rum that wasn’t just another label but a tribute to the heart of Puerto Rico.


Facing skepticism and being told he was crazy to challenge industry titans, he pressed on. Inspired by the jíbaro, the steadfast farmer and symbol of our nation’s resilience, he set out to craft a rum that mirrored the hardworking spirit of the Puerto Rican people.


Three years of relentless dedication led to the creation of Ron Boricua—a rum that strikes a harmonious balance, capturing the essence of rum without the harshness, offering a smooth aftertaste that lingers like a cherished memory.


Our journey is one of defiance, passion, and an unyielding commitment to our roots. We embraced elements often overlooked like the traditional “pava”, to adorn our exquisite bottle. Also, we proudly display the Puerto Rican flag shaped as our beautiful island as a proud declaration of who we are.

2012

Augusto Ponce embarks on the journey to bring the vision of Ron Boricua to life. His desire was to create a unique, artisanal rum for all rum lovers..


2014 - 2018

The formula, bottle design and recipe for Ron Boricua have finally been perfected. In June 7th, 2018 the first 75 cases of Ron Boricua were developed.


2018

Ron Boricua makes its debut exclusively at Walmart with a first to market launch.

2019

Ron Boricua wins a silver medal at its first convention in the United States during the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Convention, held in Florida.

  • 1 cup pineapple juice

Puerto Rican Coquito


Celebrate the holidays—or any day—with this creamy, coconut-based delight. Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican drink that’s rich, sweet, and perfectly spiced.


Ingredients:

  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (15 oz) coconut cream
  • 1 can (13.5 oz) coconut milk
  • 1 cup Ron Boricua Premium (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for garnish, optional)


Instructions:

  1. In a blender, combine the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, coconut cream, and coconut milk. Blend until smooth.
  2. Add the white rum, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Blend until all ingredients are well incorporated.
